Ritva Airaksinen (b. 1951 in Finland) is an international visual artist - a native of Finland who lived 15 years in New York, USA. "I studied fine arts formally in the School of Visual Arts of New York City, USA, 1976 - 1980. We were encouraged to continue studying art in the museums and galleries. I consider this immersing in the international culture to be a well worth education. While living in New York I held a full time position in travel marketing, creating paintings part time. Now that I have lived 10 years back in Finland the art has become a full time profession - I do teaching part time. I have arranged several exhibitions in Central Finland, three of which were international co-operations. In 1991 my paintings were in an exhibition in New York City. You may request the detailed list of exhibitions.
Moving entities have always facinated me. The first theme, Dancers, was started while I was still studying in the art school in New York. Altought the spark had been lit in Helsinki several years earlier in the first live ballet performance I was fortunate to attend. The profound admiration for the graceful movement of the dancers in motion on canvas, it is like sculpting with colors. My Abstract paintings depict internal movement of emotions. The third theme of my art work is Waters - The sparkles of light on a lake - The huge ocean wave - The mystical net of midsummer night's sun on a mirror like still water - water surging over the rocks in a rapid. You have to see them for full enjoyment. You can buy them for you to keep." |
